Lead Software Engineer
Über die Stelle
Power generation assets are not just built - they are operated, maintained, and optimized. Arteus is not a classic project developer, but an Independent Power Provider (IPP): we develop, build, and operate renewable energy assets. Your mission is to create the digital nervous system behind this. You will build the infrastructure that determines when our solar parks produce, how our batteries trade, and how our portfolio scales profitably.
Your mission
Lead Architecture: You will be our first software engineer. While the existing Arteus team develops and finances projects, you will build the technical foundation for the operational management of our assets.
Inhouse Intelligence: You will develop the core logic for battery optimization, asset optimization, predictive maintenance, AI-enabled project development, and more. You will make deliberate decisions on what to build in-house versus what to buy.
Strategic Autonomy: There is no legacy codebase and no predefined limits. You will define the tech stack and system architecture so that Arteus can scale over many years.
Ownership: You take technical leadership from day one and will gradually build your own engineering team.
Your profile
Experience: You have worked in an agile, fast-growing tech environment and have repeatedly demonstrated your ability to build from 0 → 1 → 10. You have designed MVPs, implemented them technically, brought them into production, and improved them iteratively - based on real user feedback, clear metrics, and production responsibility.
Skill Set (Systems Thinking): You think in end-to-end systems rather than isolated components. You understand modern cloud-native architectures, API design, and data flows across complex infrastructures. You know how to build robust data pipelines, how to integrate OT/IoT systems, and how to design for scalability, reliability, and maintainability from the start.
Mindset (Builder Ownership): You don’t wait for tickets - you identify problems proactively and tackle them. You are not interested in just “building another feature,” but in laying the technical foundation on which an entire engineering team will later be built. You think long-term, make conscious trade-offs, and take responsibility for your decisions.
Autonomy: You work independently, make well-founded technical decisions, and seek input only when it truly adds value. You can handle uncertainty, set priorities, and structure your work without micromanagement.
Learning Curve: You actively seek steep learning curves and new technical challenges. You experiment early, reflect quickly, and systematically translate insights into better solutions.
Bias to Action: You favor pragmatic execution over perfectionism. You build quickly, test in the real world, learn, and iterate - instead of analyzing endlessly.
Why us?
Design the brain of a future utility: You are not building tools - you are building the digital nervous system of a next-generation energy provider.
From zero to platform: No legacy code, no technical debt, no compromises. You define the architecture, data model, and tech stack from scratch and set the standards for the entire future engineering organization.
Real systems, real impact: Your software will control physical assets worth hundreds of millions in real time - with a direct impact on profitability, grid stability, and the pace of the energy transition.
Hard technical problems, clean slate: Market optimization, forecasting, dispatch, IoT/OT integration, data pipelines, API design, and scalable cloud architecture - all greenfield, without bureaucratic constraints.
Maximum autonomy, maximum leverage: Front-loaded responsibility instead of a ticket queue. You decide build-vs-buy, system design, and priorities - and your impact is felt immediately at the portfolio level.
Small team, high caliber: You will work with a small group of exceptionally strong people. Fast decisions, direct communication, minimal meetings, maximum outcome orientation.
Learning at the frontier of energy + software: Deep exposure to power markets, flexible assets, and industrial optimization - combined with modern platform engineering and ML-driven decision-making.
We build. Fast. While others analyze, we execute. Your software will be a core lever in scaling clean energy across Europe faster, more resiliently, and more cost-effectively.
